WRATH OF VISH

***UPDATE***

Hey you can download this now, right HERE. It's just the talking parts tho, without the album sequenced in, cause as if I'm going to give you a download link for an entire free album that isn't the new Cut Copy record. SO it might be a little confusing, but basically if you want to follow along at home, just play two songs in between every one of these clips and you will be fine.

Hey so our friend vish works for CBC3, which is the Canadian equivalent of like BBC19, if that existed, cause it's kind of buried somewhere on the internet. Actually maybe it's on the "airwaves" too, I have no idea. I only listen to CBC1 on my itunes. My stereo doesn't really pick it up even though I can pretty much see the radio towers on the CBC building from my house, beaming their signals who knows where. Not to my house.

Anyhow we met Vish a few years ago after he'd asked us to be on his CBC(internet)radio3 show "The Breakfast Club" where he asks bands to be interviewed at like 9am around the breakfast table at the diner of their choosing, and then often doesn't even ask them to pay for it. We all got along really well, except me and Vish, because he started bugging me about not having a license the minute I sat down. It was all hilarious, and you can hear clips from that interview on Mix Tape 4. Anyhow we sorted it all out and almost asked him to be our roadie for a tour in Canada that kind of never happened.

ANYWAYS sorry this post is ridiculous, I'm listening to another interview while I type this - he just did this funny thing with Josh and Ben and Damian where they listen to the whole album and share little anecdotes and funny stories throughout. You can listen to the whole thing right HERE. He seems to really dig the album. Funnily enough, we're doing Breakfast Club part TWO with Vish tommorow morning! That should be fun - see you in 10 hours VISH.

This would be a fine opportunity to get the recording pressed onto vinyl disks in various limited edition colours.

    Nice,

Just in case you haven't got enough new FU stuff to listen to, there's going to be a DCTL epilogue coming out after the record is released...

Something along the lines of David woke up and realised it was all a dream.

    Finally found a bad review:

    http://www.americanpancake.com/2011/06/david-comes-to-life-pretentious.html#more.

Basically DCTL should be shorter, less pretentious and the music less derisive. On the plus side, Sandy's voice sounds great on 'The Other Shoe'. So if you could bear these in mind next time you're making a record, then that would be great.

"most of the songs, after all, are mere frameworks for Damian's poetic diatribe"

i mean, the idea that the music was created as a backdrop for Damians barking and hogwash lyrics is hilarious.

I guess its a good thing that the reviewer believes that tho because it makes him less angry at the music that he think is a springsteen/the cult ripoff.

The imagery on the album cover is everything a fan of FU could wish for. I think my head is going to explode, it seems to reference everything and even pays homage to the classic TV series Rentaghost.

    "Don't tell Twitter."
Shame on Mike for sullying the grandeur of DCTL by introducing hyperreality into the overall presentation of the record.
Ive since purchased my ticket for the FU Hate bullet train and Im never getting off.

The format of the poem borrows heavily from Rupert The Bear. However I'm taking it as an Alfred Hitchock type introduction to the main performance, rather than a serious attempt at Dylan Thomas.

It's written on the back of the light-bulb sheet. The light bulbs were being sold as the album cover, but form the equivalent of a stage curtain.

The curtain is raised and we are presented with the real thing and it appears to be a performance or show rehearsal, with the band as the audience and us in the room behind them.

On closer inspection, the audience appears to be looking into a mirror and the performance is happening behind them, putting us between the audience and the show. We are invisible.

Open up the gatefold and we really are in the room, we are in front of the audience, so perhaps we are part of the performance, but the audience are looking though us, perhaps are we invisible? Look to the right and there's the ghost of Veronica. She's floating and you can see through her. Can the audience or the performers see her, or is it just us? Is it just our invisible spirit that's in the room?

You can see Nick Fenstle and Octavio St Laurent, these men represent some controlling / judging / influence. They are at the back of the room and it's not clear whether they are overseeing the performance, or are just part of the show.

The same can be said of the 'audience'. That's if the band is the audience.

But we are the audience, we are not ghosts yet, we are alive and looking at a weird picture of a performance.

The point is that it removes the 4th wall (look it up on wikipedia) as the music does, so that you start off listening to a rock opera and end up pondering life itself.

And then trying to explain it in a great long rambling post, when really you should be making the most of your life rather than wasting time posting thoughts anonymously about a record cover.

you kind of contradicted yourself there at the end, you're doing the same freaking thing

Well that was obviously just a load of nonsense that someone else wrote(not me). I'm here to talk about mirrors:

In order for a Mirror to cast a reflection, it requires Light.
    Symbolically, Light represents Illumination, Enlightenment,
Awareness and Wisdom. Therefore, in order for us to Honestly
evaluate ourselves and the world we have created around ourselves
when using our personal Spiritual Mirror, we must view our current
    reflection with an Enlightened mind.

I didn't know anything about the symbolism of mirrors, so I googled it and found the above in an article by Joe Panek, who is a leading expert on these things:

    http://www.aseekersthoughts.com/2010/06/mirror-symbol-of-reflection.html

Joe to be fair he sounds a bit of hippy toss-pot. But he does invite emails from like-minded individuals: joe8338@cox.net

Whatever, the album artwork shows the band in a congregation arrangement, looking toward the light and the two baldy / beardy, God / Psychologist / type characters.

okay,, i'm sure conceptually it's awesome, but it's not very strong as a photograph still

If you don't like the photo, just glue the light bulb cover on top. The artwork will then reference the two birds and one stone proverb, because you'll get rid of the poems too.

Most reviews seem to assume Sandy sang backing vocals but it doesn't say so on the credits. Is ignoring the album notes a way of reviving the band's previous opaqueness?
Forget the music this is what matters. j/k the album is terrific.

Sandy, is that the hot chick? In the band?

thanks for having such a reasonable merch table, when you really don't have to.

  34. Anonymous4:22 PM

Sandy is the hot chick who took the maddest photograph ever used on an album cover. If you stand the album cover up and position it behind your head, then view it looking into a mirror, you can your head in the room where the photo was taken and Sandy should be in front of you taking the picture, but she is actually behind you, so she has either been photo-montaged, or she is using a remote control shutter.

  35. Anonymous5:16 PM

No, Sandy is the mysterious figure behind the scenes who controls Fucked Up's career trajectory, despite never actually having seen... oh wait, yeah sorry. :(

    1) I didn't sing on the record. I will be singing live, though, so consider yourself warned.

    2) If you don't like the record cover/gatefold photo, guess what: I don't care. Also, you're missing the point.
