Good News!

And this time I'm not kidding. And it's not about Rubin beating Barcelona right now.

Hello. So you may have noticed that once in a while we play shows or put out records that are a bit different than normal. Sometimes the money you pay at the door or at the "record store" doesn't go to Mike to help him buy really expensive soups or to Damian to help him buy really expensive diapers, but instead goes to charities or organizations that really need the money, or in one case, have to pay for really expensive lawyers.

If you were at the show we played at the Tranzac in Toronto in June of 2007, you might remember that the show that night was a benefit for the Sex Professionals of Canada (don't believe the hype, this is not a 10,000 Marbles front organization). Actually SPOC was at that point in the middle of launching a constitutional challenge of certain laws in Canada that make it illegal to "communicate for the purposes of prostitution" or "live off the avails of prostitution", among others. They argued that these laws put sex workers in danger, since if they got robbed or raped or beat up, calling the police to report these crimes was tantamount to admitting that they'd been breaking the law too.

Well, yesterday a judge agreed and said that every law prohibiting sex workers from doing their job was unconstitutional and were just serving to make their lives more violent. Dominatrix Terri-Jean Bedford said "it's like an emancipation day for sex-trade workers".

Congrats for SPOC and Canadian sex workers.

I like Kakka-Hata 77 quite alot. Wasn't really expecting to like it as much as I do. I'm feelin' the Saints and the second Clash sometimes with that shit…I know it doesn't really sound like that and is a shitty way of describing it, but goddamn….Kakka-Hata 77 rules.

Bad News:

The October UK tour (supported by some band called Against me!?) has has been cancelled,..

I found this out when I went to buy tickets, seconds after sending an email making excuses for not being able to attend a work commitment.

Our village hall is probably free if you've already booked your flights, alternatively there are some bridges around here.
