POLITICS

One thing some of you younger kids may not remember is this thing Politics - and I'm not talking about Obama, or Suez Canal - in the heady hey-days of hardcore, the culture was infused with a sense of urgency not seen since the riots in Paris in 1968, there was a climate of understanding and caring within hardcore who's broad strokes extended from the Jnco jeans wearing dude with long hair parted in the middle, all the way to the fat guy in the Indecision basketball jersey, and all could get down to Cap'n Jazz while discussing the finer points of what donut stores in Michigan have vegan donuts, or whether or not it was morally right to perform on a stage at a festival. In this vein, please take a rare look back into this time - here is a video of the band Drop Dead playing a place in Toronto know as Who's Emma, a space essential in the forming of Fucked Up. The debate you are about to witness began during the show and eventually extended outside the venue after the set, where it crescendoed as the singer of the band was threatened with stabbings for being a "race-traitor" by a homeless man!

if you look on the page that vid was taken from, apparently they were arguing about wearing leather jackets.

the song they played directly after was apparently about animal rights.

WOW...i forgot about that show. That gig was in Toronto (i think) and a
bunch of drunk punk leather jacket crusties showed up and started
dancing violently and saying pretty ignorant stuff in between my dialogue
about animal abuse and the industries that use them to manufacture
clothing. I have no problem discussing what i think or being Intellectually
challenged about my beliefs etc...but these guys were your typical 40 ounce
swinging,Exploited barmy army assholes and had nothing but STUPID
convictions about their "rights" to use animals however they want. But
whatever...if your gonna speak your mind..it comes with the turf. If I remember
correctly also..that was the same show where some dude called me a
"race traitor" because my girlfriend was mexican and I ended up having
to "disarm" him because he pulled a knife on me after the gig. good times.
I think we'll stick to playing Montreal...

Fucking Assholes Don’t Get It.

P.S. None of the supposedly “vegan” donut shops in Michigan ever served vegan donuts, but the suspension of disbelief never tasted so good.

It all started because one of those guys brought his dog into the basement during the show. It was ridiculous.

If the debate was about animal rights, why is the Holocaust being mentioned? Fuuuuuuuuuuck...gimme some politically incorrect drunk punxxx over some pious ass liberal with a superiority complex over his lifestyle choices. I'm all about revolutionary politics and punk rock, but animal rights is just a product of individualised rich kids with guilt complexes.

On the upside, at least the guy confronted him and talked to him with a modicum of respect, although doing it over the mic is a bit unfair...
